Lana & Yong

really good news

3 Hours · winter solstice · Melbourne CBD

"The first time both families had ever met."

Yong's grandmother flew in from overseas for the wedding. His grandpa couldn't make it, so Yong visited him at his retirement home beforehand. Winter solstice. The shortest day, the longest night. Eight people at a simple evening ceremony at the Old Treasury Building. Afterward we wandered through the city as darkness fell, the Flinders Street photobooth, dumplings, no rush. I leaned into the solstice visually, letting the warmth of street lights glow against the early dark, all of it leading to a candlelit dinner at ARU. Lana is a florist, so she set the table herself. No microphones, no MC, just family sharing words across the table, sharing tears, laughing as they ate and drank together. When I asked what they were most looking forward to, they both said the same thing: dinner. That's the whole wedding right there.

Eight people. One good dinner. That's enough.
